The Casco Viejo Market and Food Tour starts from Cafe Coca Cola in Plaza Santa Ana at 10 a.m. There you will eat a late breakfast which includes corn tortillas (the Panamanian version is very different), hojaldras (fried dough), stewed sausages, cheese, coffee or Coca Cola.
Walk to Avenida Central and Salsipuedes with your guide for a cultural experience where you will learn about the pollera, sombrero pintado, tembleques, and molas (see the Mola Museum). Keep walking to reach Chinatown where you will learn about the Chinese community in Panama and its influence. Enter a “chino” shop where you will taste saladito, Chinese wafer, mafa, and siu mai.
The next stop in your Casco Viejo Market and Food Tour is the San Felipe Neri Market where you will taste natural fruit juice and possibly some tropical fruits. You will learn about local and seasonal produce. Next you will see the meat area of this Panama City market and the fondas, which serve traditional Panamanian food.
