CasaCasco Rooftop is one of the hottest rooftop bars in Casco Viejo! The last two stories of this building are the bar and the first three are restaurants including Marula Restaurant and Koböre Restaurant. Nacion Sushi used to be in this building but they moved and Mano de Tigre closed. Most people go directly up the elevator to the last and up a set of stairs to get to the top of the building. The view from the rooftop is what brings people to CasaCasco Rooftop and keeps bringing them back.
CasaCasco Rooftop Bar
The rooftop bar opens until 1 a.m. from Sunday through Wednesday and until 3 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday. Which is later than the restaurants which close around 11:30 p.m. All the building opens at noon offering lunch and dinner. This building was converted 7 years ago from a hostel to one of the top partying locations in Panama City. Sadly, there are no hostels (other than Selina Casco Viejo) in the neighborhood anymore.
People like to arrive to CasaCasco Rooftop late in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. 360 degree views from the top allow guests to see Plaza Herrera which is right in front and the American Trade Hotel (book a stay at the American Trade Hotel). The modern skyline of the city of Panama City, Panama can be seen in the background. Views from the back include the Amador Causeway, Bridge of the Americas and the Panama Canal including a lot of boats in the Pacific Ocean waiting to cross the interoceanic route. Taboga Island can be seen off in the distance.
The vibe of CasaCasco Rooftop is chill and cosmopolitan at the same time. There are sofa booths and high top chairs all in white where groups of people sit. A collection of umbrellas cover some of these spaces to protect people from the sun and sometimes from the unexpected rain. However, this rooftop bar in Casco Viejo does not have a cover unlike others. So it is not suitable in case of rain. Luckily, it rains more during the day than the evening in Panama’s rainy season.
Reservations are recommended, especially during the weekends since this place gets quite full. Especially if you want to guarantee a table on the rooftop or in Plaza Herrera.
It is common to see birthday celebrations with extravagant cakes or bachelor / bachelorette parties in this bar. Some couples even do wedding proposals in this place. This is a great place to celebrate New Years in Panama City and see the fireworks. They also have special events for other festivities including Christmas. CasaCasco Rooftop goes all out for Halloween when they decorate the whole building like a haunted house during the month of October.
Club and Plaza Herrera Seating
The floor below the rooftop is more of a club disco which gets busy later at night. People come here to dance to different music styles. There is usually a DJ on the rooftop or in the club area. Sometimes there are live bands or artists. Going out to this bar is not cheap. Drinks are a bit pricey. This place has a long list of drink, cocktails and liquors on their menu.
The rooftop offers sushi with unlimited promotions at times, pizza and a short menu of snacks. It is better to eat at one of the restaurants than on the rooftop. Food has to be brought upstairs and sometimes is slow to arrive.
CasaCasco Rooftop also has a seating area in the Plaza Herrera right next to Madre Cucina Italiana. This area is pet friendly and serves food from the restaurants. Sometimes there is live entertainment or music in the plaza. Music styles include guitar, singers or jazz.
