Description
The Colon Food Experience is a unique experience in Panama. This full-day tour takes you to the province of Colon to immerse yourself in the rich flavors and traditions of the Caribbean. Most visitors don’t go to the city of Colon unless they visit the Colon Free Trade Zone or its beautiful beaches. Therefore, this tour takes you off the beaten tourist track, allowing you to experience the vibrant culture, the joy of its people, and the delicious cuisine of Colon.
Your guide will teach you how to prepare the famous plantain empanada. This name is always pronounced in English, as its origins lie in an ancient Afro-Caribbean recipe, inherited from the fusion of cultures. Visitors will go inside a factory and prepare this tasty empanada.
The Colon Food Experience tour will also take you to the public market, where you can see all the ingredients that make up the province’s culinary offerings. The Caribbean produces the best hot sauce in Panama. You will be able to taste and purchase the “chombo” hot sauce, as well as sugarcane sweets and shredded coconut.
Visit the city’s best restaurants in the Colon Gastronomic Experience. There, you’ll sample five of Colon’s most popular dishes. You’ll meet the chefs and owners, who will share their knowledge about preparation, ingredients, and traditions passed down through generations.
