Description
Chef Dave moved from Kenya to his new home: Panama. He offers Afro-Panamanian cooking classes in Casco Viejo. Afro-Panamanians are descendants of the Africans who arrived in Panama during the Spanish conquest, which dates back to the 15th century. They represent approximately 20% of the Panamanian population and have left their mark on Panamanian cuisine.
The Afro-Panamanian cooking class in Casco Viejo teaches you to cook with spices and fresh ingredients. This hands-on culinary experience is shared with other travelers. Under Chef Dave’s guidance, you’ll prepare meals together while socializing. Improve your cooking skills and learn new recipes. The best part is that you get to enjoy all the food you prepare and even take home the leftovers!
In this class, you’ll prepare dishes with ingredients such as rice and beans, often cooked in coconut milk; fish and seafood; plantains; and yucca. Seasonings include peppers, cilantro, garlic, and other spices and aromatic herbs. Dishes can be fried, boiled, or stewed to enhance the rich, deep flavors of the ingredients.
