Description
Casco Viejo Bike Tour or Rental gives you the option to rent a bicycle in Casco Viejo and go on your own or have a guide take you through the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Walking may get tiresome after a while so having a bicycle gives you the possibility of seeing more places without having to rent a car in Panama City.
The Casco Viejo Bike Tour starts in the corner of Calle 12 with Avenida A where I have my two apartments in the Flor de Lirio building. This location is quite close to Plaza Herrera. During this tour you will learn about the history of Casco Viejo which dates back to 1673 after the original city, now called Panama Viejo, was burned in 1671.
There are several stops included in the Casco Viejo Bike Tour for you to take photos. Your guide will explain each site and its history. Visit Plaza Herrera, the San Jose Church (Golden Altar), the ruins of the Society of Jesus, Panama’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Plaza Catedral or Independence, Calle Esteban Manuel Villegas, Palacio de las Garzas (Panama’s Presidential Palace), San Felipe Neri Church and the Plaza Bolivar.
This tour will leave Casco Viejo after heading to the Cinta Costera. This recreational space and the street are closed every Sunday until noon for people to ride bikes and walk on an even bigger area. Those who prefer to rent a bicycle in Panama City can cycle down this coastal street and look at all the skyscrapers that adorn the bay. After that you will head to the Maracana Stadium and around Casco Viejo on the Cinta Costera 3 to head to Panama City’s Fish Market where you can have some lunch or ceviche and a drink which are not included.
