Description
Monkey Island Tour or Lake Gatun Expedition takes you on a wonderful boat trip through the heart of Lake Gatun, which is the second largest artificial lake in the world. Depart from the Gamboa marina through the Chagres River while passing under the historic train bridge. The boat has a roof for the comfort of visitors while they are navigating through the Panama Canal. You will feel tiny when looking at the massive ships, freighters and cruises that pass next to your boat.
The guide will be searching for wildlife that lives in the Panama Canal watershed. It is possible to see crocodiles and turtles swimming in the canals. This part of Panama is full of birds, there is an estimate of 300 species in the nearby Soberania park. It is very likely that you will see toucans and snail kites looking for snails along the shore.
The main attraction of the Monkey Island Tour are the monkeys! There are three types of monkeys that live in the islands within the Panama Canal. These are the howler monkeys (these are very loud), white faced capuchin monkey and the Geoffrey’s tamarin monkeys. The last two may jump on the boat since some tourists feed them bananas and peanuts.
