Description
Mamoni river crosses a natural reserve of the same name. This is where kayaking and river rafting started in Panama over 30 years ago. Mamoni White Water Rafting is classified as a Class III or IV. Some rapids, including a beautiful waterfall, will be hiked because of safety considerations.
Mamoni River is known for people doing gold panning which can be seen on the river edges. The area depends mostly on cattle farms, subsistence agriculture, banana plantations and forestry. The Mamoni White Water Rafting tour includes a stop in ECOFARMS Panama. This organization is committed to the reforestation of the Mamoni reserve. The trip through the river includes some strips of primary and secondary forests.

Rafting can be done almost all year-round depending on the water levels of the Mamoni River. Water peak is reached in November. The lowest water is in the months of April and May, at the end of the dry season, when river rafting and kayaking is not done on the Mamoni River. 14’ rafts are used from July through December. Smaller rafts of 11’ and duckies (inflatable kayaks) from December through February and from May through June.
In March, when the river water goes down, Mamoni White Water Rafting will be done in inflatable kayaks. It is more challenging than paddling in a raft. Less experienced participants will be in rafts and parties may be split up in order to procure overall safety. Guides will provide basic training and they will escort the ducky convoy downstream. All guides are trained in white water navigation, first aid and CPR.
All participants MUST take their passport if foreign or ID card if Panamanian or resident. There is a police check point along the way where they will ask for it. There is a minimum age of 18 for the Mamoni White Water Rafting. Participants must be in good health and physical conditions.
