Description
Depart from your hotel in Panama City at 8:30 a.m. heading towards Lake Alajuela to start the Embera Indigenous Village tour. Lake Alajuela is an artificial lake in the Chagres River basin which is linked to the Panama Canal since it serves as a reservoir for the canal. A few rivers flow into Lake Alajuela which provides 45 percent of the total water for the Panama Canal. Upon arrival to the lake you will board a “piragua” which is a traditional indigenous boat that is a motorized dugout canoe.
The first stop will be the Mono waterfall where you can swim and cool off. During the walk you will learn about the local flora and some of the medicinal plants that are used by the Embera Indigenous Village. Your indigenous guide will also explain about the plants they use to make their handicrafts and homes.
Later you will go to Tusipono Embera Indigenous Village which is located on the banks of the Chagres River in the middle of the rainforest. This tribe will perform their traditional dances and sing their music. They will invite you to dance with them. The Embera will also show you their way of dressing and paint you with jagua that is a natural paint obtained from a fruit. It is also possible for you to dress in the Embera traditional clothes. Your hosts will offer you a traditional lunch which is served in banana leaves. Embera crafts are shown for tourists to purchase and help the community. You will return to Panama City around 2:30 p.m.

Important information: the Embera Indigenous Village requires a minimum of 2 passengers. This tour is offered regularly on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Child price is from 6 to 12 years of age. Children under 6 have no cost.
